Tasdiruna: International Journal of Islamic Law and Social Transformation

This statement outlines the ethical standards expected of all parties involved in the publication process of Tasdiruna: International Journal of Islamic Law and Social Transformation, including authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher, Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Parepare. This publication ethics policy is based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and internationally recognized standards of scholarly publishing.

The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal such as Tasdiruna constitutes an essential contribution to the development of a coherent, credible, and respected body of knowledge in the field of Islamic law and social transformation. Published articles reflect not only the quality of the authors’ research but also the integrity of the institutions that support them. The peer-review process upholds the principles of academic rigor and strengthens scholarly discourse. Therefore, it is imperative to establish and maintain high ethical standards for authors, editors, reviewers, the publisher, and the broader academic community.

Duties of the Publisher

As the publisher of this journal, Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Parepare takes full responsibility for safeguarding all stages of the publication process. The publisher is committed to ensuring that editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by advertising, sponsorship, reprint sales, or other commercial interests. The publisher and Editorial Board may cooperate with other journals or publishers when necessary to address ethical concerns or resolve publication disputes.

Duties of Editors

Editors of Tasdiruna: International Journal of Islamic Law and Social Transformation are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published. Editorial decisions are based on the manuscript’s scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, and contribution to the field. Editors must also consider applicable legal requirements, including those related to defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

In making publication decisions, editors may consult peer reviewers or other members of the Editorial Board. Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their intellectual content, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Editors and editorial staff must maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts. Information about a manuscript may only be disclosed to the corresponding author, reviewers, prospective reviewers, editorial advisors, and the publisher, as appropriate. Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without the author’s explicit written consent.

Duties of Reviewers

Reviewers play a critical role in supporting editorial decision-making and improving manuscript quality. Peer review must be conducted objectively, with reviewers providing constructive, well-reasoned, and unbiased evaluations. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate.

Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or unable to complete the review within the allocated time must notify the editor and withdraw from the review process. Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without authorization from the editor.

Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published works. Any privileged information obtained through the review process must remain confidential and must not be used for personal advantage. Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or affiliated institutions.

Duties of Authors

Authors are responsible for presenting accurate, honest, and original accounts of their research. Reports of original research must contain sufficient detail and references to allow replication. Data must be accurately represented, and fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Authors may be required to provide raw data for editorial review and should be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable period following publication. All submitted manuscripts must be entirely original. If the work or words of others are used, they must be properly cited or quoted. Plagiarism in any form is unethical and unacceptable.

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal or publish substantially similar research in multiple journals. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. All individuals who meet these criteria should be listed as co-authors, while contributors who do not qualify for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission.

If the research involves hazardous materials, procedures, or equipment, these must be clearly identified in the manuscript. For research involving human participants or animals, authors must ensure compliance with relevant ethical standards and regulations.

All authors must disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of their research. Sources of financial support must be clearly acknowledged. If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they are obligated to promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the article as necessary.
